A Strong Foundation

-JDC, Albuquerque

I’m proud of my mom. It’s easy to be proud of a parent just because they’re your parent, but my mom has been through hell itself. I watched her from a young age struggle with her mental health. I know that if I struggled, I would try and give up.

She never tried to give up but instead found ways to cope and still be the best mom I could’ve asked for. She implanted strong morals in all of her children. It might not have made sense back then, but the more I grew up, I realized I had a strong foundation. My mom made me the man I am today. I might have made bad choices but that’s not who I am.

Thank you, mom! You got me out of a bad situation. You picked me up when I fell. You cleaned my wounds when I was injured. You have always been there for me. All I have put you through and all the hurtful things I have said, you stuck by my side.

You gave me faith when I had none. You helped me see that no matter what I was told by my dad, no matter what he had done. I had a father in heaven who was always watching over me. You were beside me when I was looking into death’s eyes in the hospital.

All that to thank you for, and I really couldn’t see for so long that you have always been there for me. I have made some mistakes in life. I know that, but you taught me to never give up and that everyone gets a second chance through God.

I’m going to use that second chance when I get out. I’m going to make you proud. All of our family hates on me but I promise you, staying by my side will pay off. All the hate you received for helping me won’t be for nothing. I am proud of you for being patient, not just with me but in all aspects of life.

I know everyone has different stories and different moms, but you don’t really have to look hard to find what you have to be proud of her for. I love you mom.
